Every year, dozens of children - most younger than 10 years old - are killed getting on and off the school bus. Hundreds more survive - some fully recover and others don't. As a school bus driver, I see people fly right through my stop arm - lights on and all - at full speed, with children having to dart out of the way. This happens every day, on every route all over the United States. As school bus drivers, currently our best bet is to only hope the children don't get hit. 

There's a blatant disregard for school bus stop laws and it's time for it to stop. 

The police are never where we need them to be at the time, are they? But school busses are equipped with cameras inside and out, recording everything. 

This petition is a call to action for the current laws to be rewritten to make it a federal offense to pass a school bus while children are loading/ unloading. The law should also be written to require school bus drivers to document each incident of illegal passing. Once submitted to the employer, the employer is to gather the vehicle's description and plate number from camera footage and send to local police departments. The police department would then administer the determined adverse action against the driver. To avoid delays, we ask that incidents be reported by school bus drivers same-day and sent to local police within 24 hours. Police would have one week to serve the driver who illegally passed the school bus. 

Statistics show that more and more children are killed each year loading and unloading from a school bus, as auto drivers grow more complacent from always getting away with it. How many children could your signature save?
