It's A Houston Thing: "Be Someone" Iconic Artwork.

The Issue

Arguably Houston's most photographed landmark, the iconic "Be Someone," artwork is located at U.S. 90, Interstate 45, Gulf Fwy, Houston, TX 77007. The "Be Someone" message first showed up overnight in September of 2012.

The "Be Someone" artwork quickly received national exposure, eventually becoming a symbol that stood for the people of Houston. It has been defaced several times, but the citizens of Houston have taken notice each time and the artwork is redone within several days.

In 2015, it was vandalized when people painted red over "some," causing the message to say "Be one." In 2017, it was vandalized again during the weeks before Super Bowl LI and painted to say "Football."

The message associated with the "Be Someone" artwork has represented our company since the very beginning. Many others, including us, believe that the symbolic artwork and phrase deeply represents the culture of Houston.

That is why we would like to ask for your support to sign our petition, requesting that Mayor Sylvester Turner, Sheila Jackson Lee, Ed Gonzalez and the City of Houston recognize, approve and protect our iconic "Be Someone" landmark.

The landmark stands for a deeper meaning of being unique, special and different in your own way. I guess you could say it's a Houston Thing.
