Make Housing Affordable for Low-Income Residents

The Issue

I am currently homeless. The invasiveness and distressing reality of my circumstance shed light on an alarming and injust housing market, where landlords remotely raise prices, creating an impenetrable barrier for low-income individuals like myself to secure decent accommodation. The time has come to improve the affordability of housing - both apartments and houses - for all income classes.

This issue is far from anecdotal. According to Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies, in 2017 nearly half (47.4%) of renting households in the US were cost-burdened (spending more than 30% of their income on housing), with about a quarter of renters (10.7 million households) spending more than half their income on housing. The gravity of these figures reveals an unerring truth: our current system is systematically failing those of us who can't keep up with skyrocketingly high prices.

There is a pressing need to shape a responsible and inclusive housing landscape where each of us has access to affordable accommodation. This involves implementing policies that restrain price gouging, and developing more subsidized accommodation projects for people from various income classes.

Support this petition to extend leverage to all and ensure a fundamental right - the right to decent, affordable housing. Because everyone deserves a place to call home. Let's set the wheels in motion to make housing affordable for all. Please, sign this petition today.
