Make house visits mandatory for severe mental health cases

Make house visits mandatory for severe mental health cases
The Issue
My dad has struggled with his mental health for the past two years. He had a breakdown last year and was unable to leave the house. We rang 111, desperately seeking help, but were told to go to a café that supports mental health, which was impossible for him. He couldn't physically get to a doctor, so we had to rely on phone appointments where my mum answered most of the questions because he couldn't speak much. Despite being prescribed sertraline, there was no improvement in his condition.
It was only 4 weeks before his tragic passing that his medication was changed. My dad didn't get any better, leaving us questioning the effectiveness of the support he received and the medication prescribed.
It's a devastating reality for many families dealing with similar situations. When someone is experiencing extreme mental health issues and cannot leave their home, there should be a mandatory requirement for healthcare professionals to conduct house visits. These individuals need immediate and compassionate face-to-face care, not vague suggestions or impersonal phone calls.
Additionally, we need more transparent research into the effects of antidepressants like sertraline. There is growing concern that these medications do not work for everyone, and in some cases, might worsen the condition, leading individuals to take drastic, irreversible actions.
Statistics from the World Health Organization indicate that around 800,000 people die due to suicide every year, and countless more attempt suicide. Many of them may have been on medications that weren't adequately monitored or appropriately prescribed for their specific situations.
We must call on healthcare providers and policymakers to:
1. Implement mandatory house visits for individuals dealing with severe mental health conditions who are unable to leave their homes for treatment.
2. Conduct more comprehensive and transparent research into antidepressants to ensure they are safe and effective.
Please support this petition to ensure that individuals like my dad receive the urgent care they need and deserve. Sign this petition to make mental health care more accessible and responsive today.
