Make Highland Avenue Safe Again

The Issue

On October 14, 2022 Estela Rodriguez was spending the day doing her usual routine in Fullerton, CA. Walking to run errands at the market, visiting friends, and most likely listening to her beloved Spanish songs. She entered the crosswalk on South Highland Avenue that evening and was tragically struck by a vehicle. She was rushed to UCI Medical Center and was pronounced dead the following day, due to massive head trauma, leaving behind her son George, daughter Esmerelda and her grandchildren.

This crosswalk is near Richman Park and Richman Elementary School and has a high amount of foot traffic.

In the days since this tragedy, it has become painfully obvious to the community that this incident could have been prevented had there been adequate lighting on the street and lighting in the crosswalk.

Please join us in demanding the City of Fullerton Transportation Department make our streets safe and prevent more tragedy. We are demanding that  this crosswalk be updated to a lighted crossing and that all crosswalks in the immediate area be inspected for safety. We will also look at how many traffic incidents have occurred involving Pedestrians in the area and demand adequate lighting and infrastructure for the safety of the entire Community.
