Make Hickley's Corner Safer

The Issue

Hickley’s Corner has become a perilous stretch of road. In the past four months alone, three tragic accidents have shaken our community, one resulting in the heartbreaking loss of a life and two leaving individuals with devastating, life-changing injuries. This is an unacceptable situation that demands immediate action to prevent further tragedies.

Current speed limits are evidently insufficient in keeping our community safe. With vehicles racing through at high speeds, the propensity for accidents increases significantly. Studies have shown that reducing speed limits is directly correlated with a decrease in both the frequency and severity of accidents.

We urge the local authorities to take these critical steps to enhance safety at Hickley’s Corner:
1. Lower the speed limit from the current, unsafe level to 30 mph.
2. Implement speed cameras to monitor and penalize speeding drivers.
3. Install red light cameras to ensure drivers respect traffic signals.

We FULLY understand that not all accidents here are caused by motorists - pedestrians themselves can be easily distracted by mobile phones and impatiently rush for trains.  This is not a campaign to demonise all motorists.  We feel that if the pedestrians had been hit at 30mph and not 50mph they would all be telling a different story today.

Sign the petition and contribute to making our roads safer for everyone.
