The Issue

I want to bring attention to a critical issue that affects the lives of countless individuals—racial bias in healthcare. This is a matter of life and death, a reality I and many others face every day. People of color have long been victims of systemic biases that permeate our healthcare system, manifesting in neglect, improper treatment, and unfair prioritization. It's time we address and dismantle these harmful barriers.

Many individuals, particularly people of color, find themselves on waiting lists for transplants, often for years, experiencing unseen and unheard suffering. According to a 2020 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, African American patients with kidney failure are less likely to be referred for kidney transplants compared to their white counterparts, highlighting a grave disparity that leads to higher morbidity rates and increased mortality.

Furthermore, studies have indicated that African Americans are 68% less likely than whites to receive a desired organ transplant. The socio-economic barriers, along with racial prejudices, create a devastating impact on the lives of patients who are already battling severe health conditions. It’s vital to recognize and rectify these disparities, opening up fairer access to life-saving procedures for all.

In the face of this glaring inequity, I call for immediate action to implement comprehensive policies that ensure equal access to healthcare services, regardless of race. This includes bias training for all healthcare professionals, transparent organ donation processes, and creating accountability systems to monitor bias in treatment decisions.

Let us unite to end this injustice and create a healthcare system that is equitable for everyone, ensuring that people of color receive the same quality of care and opportunities for survival. Your voice is crucial in bringing about this change.

Sign this petition to demand an unbiased and fair healthcare system that does not discriminate against anyone based on the color of their skin. Together, we can make a difference and transform the fabric of healthcare for future generations.
