Make Guaranteed Boot Space a Standard Feature in Ride-Hailing Apps
The Issue
Every day, thousands of people book cabs to airports, railway stations and bus stands expecting one simple thing: enough space to carry their luggage.
That is why many customers choose and pay extra for a Premium Sedan.
But in reality, many of these sedans arrive with their boot almost completely occupied by a CNG cylinder. A standard check-in suitcase often doesn't fit, forcing passengers to keep luggage on the back seat, reduce seating capacity or struggle to somehow fit their bags into the little space available.
What should be a smooth journey often begins with an uncomfortable conversation between the passenger and the driver.
Passengers expect usable boot space because they paid for a premium sedan.
Drivers explain that they cannot do anything because the vehicle is CNG-powered.
The result is frustration for everyone.
This is no longer an isolated issue. It has become a common experience for travellers across Indian cities, especially for airport, railway station and bus stand pickups and drop-offs.
Families travelling with multiple suitcases, senior citizens, tourists, business travellers and anyone carrying check-in luggage face the same problem repeatedly.
The expectation isn't unreasonable.
When customers pay more for a Premium Sedan, they are not just paying for a slightly larger car. They are also paying for the practicality that comes with it, including adequate luggage space.
Unfortunately, that expectation is often not met.
What needs to change
Ride-hailing platforms including Uber, Rapido, Ola, Namma Yatri and others should introduce a Guaranteed Boot Space option while booking.
For trips to airports, railway stations and bus stands, customers should be able to book vehicles that can actually accommodate standard luggage.
If a vehicle's boot is largely occupied by a CNG cylinder, the platform should either:
Assign another vehicle with sufficient usable boot space, or
Ensure the vehicle is equipped with a certified roof-mounted luggage carrier where the driver can safely secure luggage with proper waterproof protection.
Customers should know before booking whether a vehicle can actually carry their luggage.
This should not cost extra
This should not become another paid add-on.
Customers are already paying premium fares for Premium Sedan rides. Usable luggage space is not a luxury feature or an upgrade. It is a basic expectation of the service that customers are already paying for.
Adding another charge for something that should have been available in the first place would only shift the burden back onto customers.
Why this matters
Introducing Guaranteed Boot Space would:
Eliminate unnecessary arguments between passengers and drivers.
Improve the airport and railway station travel experience.
Help families, tourists, senior citizens and business travellers.
Make ride selection more transparent.
Build greater trust in ride-hailing platforms.
Sometimes, the most impactful product improvements are not the biggest innovations.
They are the ones that solve an everyday problem faced by thousands of people.
If you believe customers deserve a guaranteed luggage-friendly cab when booking a Premium Sedan, please sign this petition and help encourage Uber, Rapido, Ola, Namma Yatri and other ride-hailing companies to make this a standard feature.
