We call on TNT Sports, Warner Bros Discovery, and UEFA to make all major European football finals free-to-air in the United Kingdom.
For more than 30 years, football fans in the UK have been able to watch the Champions League final without needing an expensive subscription. Now, for the first time, supporters are being locked out behind a paywall.
The decision to make the Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain exclusive to TNT Sports is deeply unfair and completely out of touch with ordinary supporters.
Football is supposed to bring people together. Instead, millions of loyal fans — including elderly people living on tight pensions, struggling families, and young children who dream of watching their club in a European final — are being denied the chance to experience one of the biggest sporting occasions of the year.
Many people simply cannot afford yet another monthly subscription during a cost-of-living crisis. Asking supporters to pay extra just to watch a single final is unacceptable.
What makes this even more insulting is that the match will still be available free-to-air in other countries, including the Republic of Ireland, while supporters in the UK — where one of the finalists is based — are expected to pay extra just to watch their team.
European finals are not ordinary matches. They are national sporting events that create lifelong memories shared between generations — grandparents watching with grandchildren, families gathering together, communities celebrating together.
By putting these matches behind a paywall, TNT Sports and UEFA are turning football into a luxury instead of the game for everyone it is supposed to be.
We demand that:
All Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League finals be shown free-to-air in the UK.
UEFA protects access for ordinary supporters, not just paying subscribers.
Broadcasters recognise the social and cultural importance of these events.
UK fans are given the same access already available to viewers in other countries.
Football belongs to the fans — not just those who can afford another subscription. On top of this it's free to air in other countries including the Republic of Ireland.
