Make early childhood education mandatory nationwide
The Issue
Growing up in a single family household, my mother juggled multiple jobs to make ends meet. While she worked tirelessly to provide for us, she also worried about our futures. With the right resources, she was able to afford early education programs for my siblings and me. This stepping stone of early educational support prepared us for school. With access to early education and consistent intervention, we are now grown with degrees. School gives children choices. Now, as an earlychildhood educator myself, I understand the immense value of early childhood education and why it must be accessible to all families, regardless of their economic background.
Early childhood education is crucial in shaping the development and future success of children. According to the National Institute for Early Education Research, children who attend high-quality pre-school programs are more likely to succeed academically, graduate from high school, and even earn higher incomes later in life. However, these vital benefits remain inaccessible to too many families. A 2020 study by the Economic Policy Institute revealed that almost 60% of American children do not have access to affordable early education.
Moreover, parents across the country are calling for support as they face the daunting task of balancing work and providing quality care and education for their children in the critical early years. Mandatory early childhood education would not only prepare children better for school life but also offer much-needed guidance and support to parents.
We urge our lawmakers to implement legislative measures that make early childhood education mandatory and free for all children, nationwide. By doing so, we can ensure a more equitable education system that empowers every child to reach their full potential and supports parents in nurturing the future minds of our country.
Sign this petition today to demand that early childhood education becomes a fundamental right for every child in our nation. Together, we can create a brighter future for our children and our society.
