Make Denial of School Restroom Access a Federal Offense

The Issue

I, like many others, am a product of the American education system. Being 24 years old and out of school doesn't exempt me, or any other individual, from seeking justice for some 'in-house' issues that persist in our learning environments. This particular issue is essential to basic human needs and dignity - access to restrooms. Stories that have reached my ears of students being forced to relieve themselves in classrooms due to a denial of restroom access, have disturbed me to my core. This should NOT be happening.

There ought to be no limitations or restrictions on use of restrooms in schools. It is fundamentally contrary to a student's health and well-being – it's as simple as that. When nature calls, it needs to be addressed immediately. It's not just about comfort, it's a matter of health. The Cleveland Clinic states that holding urine for too long can lead to urinary tract infections, kidney problems, and other complications.

The time has come for us to turn our attention towards this issue, to protect the future movers and shakers of our nation from such indignities and health hazards. Our plea is to the federal officials of our country — amend a federal law to make the denial of access to school restrooms a punishable offense. This act should be given the same level of severity as any other violation of fundamental human rights. Be the change that can eradicate this menace from our schools. Sign this petition, for the sake of our future generation. Justice NOW!!!
