Public housing tenants  for years now many of us have experienced neglect, bully/intimidation tactics and even abuse from the staff at DCJ Housing  Charlestown.(In my cases)

This petition comes from a place of personal experience, stemming from numerous instances of neglect, ranging from elderly abuse, mental health abuse, disability abuse, to fraudulent financial discrepancies along with lack of repairs regardless to the severity of the repair issue.

We as tenants need to stand together stand up for our rights our right to fair procedures our right to be heard and answered in a timely manner our right to complain without victimization our right to live in clean adequate housing that meets our needs.our right to live in a happy safe environment right to live without DCJ staff manipulative condescending behaviors expecting tenants to conform to their beliefs or face further manipulating victimisation causing many tenants unnecessary fear stress depression and despair with the termoil the department creates on many levels for many tenants

This  petition is created in hopes of taking the power away from dcj giving tenants a safe place to go with there complaints concerns requests etc a place tenants can have a voice that will be heard a place where dcj is not in control of the outcome to any given situation a place that will provide help requested in a timely manner.

Many tenants, regularly subjected to such violations, have been left suffering physically, mentally, and financially. In some cases, such negligence has even led to physical harm, requiring surgeries. Despite repeated complaints, to the appropriate agencies accountability appears to be nonexistent within the system. The lack of reasonable or acceptable response or even concern regarding serious issues from the Minister of Housing and Mental Health has left us feeling unheard and unprotected, exacerbating the issue further. 

In the absence of fairness, transparency and accountability from the correct authorities, we are advocating for the establishment of an independent entity for tenants. This entity should be a platform where tenants can file complaints anonymously. An entity that ensures hard proof of improvements, whether that be immediate repairs or recognition of tenants’ rights, and essentially hold the responsible parties accountable.

The impact of such neglectful actions by DCJ Housing is not just limited to a handful of isolated cases. This is a widespread issue affecting the majority of us who reside in DCJ Housing. Our hope and aim are to bring about much-needed change to the DCJ Housing system, enhancing protection for tenants’ rights, and not having our pleas fall on deaf ears any longer.

Change can only come about through collective action and widespread support. So, we implore you to sign this petition. Together, we can put a stop to the neglect and ensure justice for all tenants affected by DCJ Housing's actions and accountability for staf a better future for tenants a safe place to express issues that may arise without fear of ongoing victimization from the department.
