The pedestrian refuge island at the junction of Ascension Road, Faircross Avenue and Chase Cross Road is no longer adequate for the number of people who use it.

This is a key crossing point for local residents travelling between the Clockhouse and Rise Park areas, as well as for those accessing the nearby bus stop serving the 175 and 375 routes.

Chase Cross Road is a busy road, and vehicles frequently approach at speed from both directions. Although the refuge island allows pedestrians to pause in the middle of the road, drivers are not required to stop. This often leaves people waiting for long periods, and it can feel particularly unsafe when crossing with children, older residents or those with mobility difficulties.

With controlled crossings already in place nearby at Gobions and Felstead, we believe this location should also be assessed to determine whether a zebra crossing, signal-controlled crossing, or another improved pedestrian safety measure would be appropriate.

Havering Council has indicated that this section of Chase Cross Road may be considered as part of future accident reduction measures. By signing this petition, you can help demonstrate the strength of local support for improving pedestrian safety at this important crossing point.
