MAKE COURT TRAVEL EASIER: BRING RAILWAY COUNTERS TO DELHI COURTS.

The Issue

Every day, thousands of advocates travel to Delhi’s courts to represent litigants and assist in the administration of justice. Many advocates, especially young lawyers and those practicing in multiple courts, depend on train travel as the most affordable and reliable option.

Representation to Railway Authorities

However, most of Delhi’s District Courts do not have railway ticket booking counters, even though such facilities existed earlier and were closed after 2020. Today, major courts such as Tis Hazari, Rohini, Patiala House, Rouse Avenue, and Karkardooma have no functional railway counters at all.

As a result:

  • Advocates are forced to travel to crowded railway stations
  • Valuable court time is lost in arranging tickets
  • Urgent, court-related travel becomes extremely difficult
  • Missed trains lead to missed hearings and adjournments
  • Professional efficiency and access to justice suffer

This is an avoidable hardship for advocates, who are officers of the court.

What We Are Asking For

We have requested the Ministry of Railways and IRCTC to introduce:

Railway Ticket Counters Inside Court Premises (For Advocates)

  • Simple, walk-in railway booking facilities inside all major Delhi courts
  • Preference / quota-based booking for advocates
  • Assistance with booking, cancellation, and concessions

Dedicated Booking Facility for Urgent Court Travel
Court-related travel is often sudden and unavoidable.  Therefore, we seek:

Online (Virtual): A secure, priority booking option on the IRCTC website/app for registered advocates for urgent court travel

Offline (Physical): Priority railway counters inside court complexes to assist advocates in emergency situations

Why This Is Important

  • Advocates can reach courts on time and avoid unnecessary adjournments
  • Court functioning improves when lawyers are not delayed due to travel issues
  • Loss of productive court hours is prevented
  • Similar facilities already exist in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, there is no reason district courts should be excluded

Our Appeal
We respectfully urge the authorities to:

  • Re-open closed railway counters in court premises
  • Start new counters in courts where none exist
  • Recognize railway booking as a basic professional facilitation for advocates

This is a small administrative step that will bring significant relief to the legal fraternity and strengthen the justice delivery system.

Please sign this petition and share it.
Let us make court travel smoother and more efficient for advocates.
