Make Connecticut Cruelty Free!

Make Connecticut Cruelty Free!

The Issue

While not required, animal testing in the cosmetics industry is still legal throughout the United States. So far, eight states have successfully banned animal testing in the cosmetics industry: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, and Virginia. Connecticut should do the same.

500,000 animals die in cosmetics testing around the world each year. Not only is this testing cruel, but unnecessary and unreliable. There are thousands of safe ingredients that can be used without additional testing and several modern testing methods, such as computer models and human cell-based tests, that are less expensive and more effective.

Connecticut animal cruelty laws ban unjustifiably administering or exposing a domestic animal to noxious drugs or substances. Cosmetic animal testing is unnecessary and thus should be considered unjustifiable going forward.
