Make Coding Websites Accessible at Nederland Independent School District

Make Coding Websites Accessible at Nederland Independent School District
The Issue
I am a student at Nederland ISD, and like many of my peers, I have a passion for coding. The long hours we spend in school could be utilized more effectively if we had access to coding websites. This would not only enhance our learning experience but also equip us with skills that are increasingly important in today's digital age.
However, currently, the accessibility to these resources is limited within our school district. This limitation hinders our ability to learn and grow in this field outside of designated computer science classes.
According to Code.org, 90% of parents want their child to study computer science while less than half of schools teach this subject (source: Gallup poll). By making coding sites accessible at Nederland ISD, we can bridge this gap and provide students with the opportunity they need and deserve.
Moreover, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that by 2024 there will be more than one million unfilled computing jobs due to lack of qualified workers (source: BLS). By allowing access to coding sites in school hours, we can prepare ourselves for these future opportunities.
We urge the administration at Nederland ISD to reconsider their policy on blocking access to educational coding websites during school hours. Let's empower students by providing them with all necessary tools for success in the digital world.
Please sign this petition if you believe that every student should have an equal chance at learning how to code regardless of when or where they choose to do so.
