The goal of this petition is to have North Carolina do everything we can to help stop Climate Change.

North Carolina has warmed 1 1/2 degrees in the last century. This may not seem like a lot, but North Carolina will not be habitable if temperatures keep increasing like this. North Carolina also has problems with polluting, especially pollution from agriculture.

North Carolina does have a plan to help stop climate change, but it is not enough. The plan is to reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions from 2005 to 2025 by 40%. If we are going to combat climate change, we need to reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions by more than that.

If we do not do this, sea levels will continue to rise on the NC coast. There will be more droughts which will affect agriculture. The summers would get hotter and we may have a lot more rainfall than we normally do. This is all bad for the environment. The environment is very sensitive to changes, even small ones.

North Carolina has the potential to be a leader in the USA and the world for Climate Change. We unfortunately have not lived up to this potential yet. If climate change becomes one of North Carolina's top priorities, we can do it. It takes all of us, not just me, so please sign.
