Make Child Maintenance a Recognised Enforceable Debt

Make Child Maintenance a Recognised Enforceable Debt
The Issue
I am a single parent raising four children, and like many others, I struggle to receive the financial support that is rightfully owed by their fathers. This lack of support leaves us struggling to provide basic necessities such as fitting clothes and food. It's time for this system to change.
Child maintenance is not currently considered an enforceable debt in our legal system, allowing non-receiving parents to evade their responsibilities. They can easily manipulate the system by changing jobs or becoming self-employed, thus avoiding payments while they continue living comfortably.
The Child Support Agency (CSA) relies heavily on hearsay rather than conducting thorough income checks on these parents. As a result, many children are left without the financial support they deserve and need for their well-being.
We demand that child maintenance be recognised as an enforceable debt under law. We also call for more stringent measures from the CSA in verifying parents' incomes so that child maintenance payments accurately reflect what is due.
Additionally, unpaid CSA should be treated as arrears owed rather than just an ever-increasing figure with no real consequence or enforcement action taken against it.
This petition isn't just about my children; it's about all children who are denied the financial support they deserve from both parents. It's time we hold non-paying parents accountable and ensure our children have access to necessities like food and clothing through proper child maintenance payments.
Please sign this petition if you believe in fair child maintenance laws and want to help make a difference in the lives of countless families struggling due to inadequate enforcement of these laws.
