Make Chick-Fil-A open on Sundays, donate proceeds to charity and be truly Christian.

The Issue

In Fiscal Year 2009, the Chick-Fil-A francise made 3.2 billion dollars. All this was achieved in only 6 days per week of operation, the seventh (Sunday) being the Christian sabbath day of rest and thus observed by the francise founders.

Given their immense potential for profits, wouldn't the truly Christian thing be to open on Sundays and donate the proceeds to the needy? They would lose NO money in this move and could even allow for those most devout to continue to work a Sunday-free schedule.

By FY09 numbers, a Sunday at Chick-Fil-A could generate at least (possibly more because of weekend fast food peaks) $550 million dollars.

$550 million dollars, per year, to help the needy.

In an article on ChristiaNet, a Christian news website, S. Truett Cathy described how his company's purpose statement reflects the corporation's heart "[t]hat [they] might glorify God by being a faithful steward in all that is entrusted to our care, and that we might have a positive influence on all the people that we might come in contact with."

S. Cathy continued by posing the questions "Why are we alive?" and "Why are we in business?"

Tell us, S. Truett Cathy, what would Jesus do? Really, why ARE you in business?

Contact their corporate headquarters in Atlanta, tell them what $550 million could do.
