The A181 road between Thornley and Cassop has been an issue for many years. It is an extremely dangerous road and has caused many accidents, some being fatal. 

There are several crashes a year on this road and it is only a matter of time before this increases and more fatalities occur. Why should we let this happen or Durham County Council let this happen when it can be avoided. 

I know many residents have wrote to the council or spoke about changes to be made to the road however no changes has ever been made. 

There has been a huge amount of people complaining about this road and rightly so, it can take ages to pull out of the junction too which can cause accidents in itself. Durham County Council has the power to change this. 

I this it’s time for changes to be made to the road to increase resident and drivers safety when passing this road and junction.

A roundabout or traffic light system would enable more safety due to having more control of the road as the road also doesn’t have the best visibility on both sides from Thornley and Cassop. 

Residents have lists of accidents that have occurred and events that shouldn’t have taken place on that road over the years and wouldn’t have had the safety issues been resolved. 

Please sign this petition if you think that the road should be improved with a roundabout or traffic light system and if you give your permission for this petition to be passed to Durham County Council to take action on the road to make sure we can avoid accidents and fatalities in the future.
