Why this petition matters

Started by BN Choudhary

My wife has been suffering from cancer of the endometrium with now spread to pelvis and liver. With this high stage metastasis she has very limited treatment option as surgery, radiation, etc are out of scope now. Immunotherapy is now recommended along with oral targetted medicine. The immunotherapy drug recommended for her is Pembrolizumab which is very expensive in India and it does not have any alternatives. Many patients in India would be needing this but it is not affordable.

Keytruda (Pembrolizumab), sold by the company MSD (Merck, Sharp & Dohme), is the required immunotherapy drug for high stage cancers and is very expensive - The MRP of a 200mg vial is almost Rs. 4 lacs INR. Administered in a cycle of 21 days for 2 years, the approx. treatment expenses is in the range of 1.5 crore INR.

In India, the Patient support program doesn't cover cancer of Endometrium. It supports other cancers like lung, head and neck.

Hence, it becomes an impossible financial burden for families like mine where my wife needs this medicine but the treatment is not affordable.

If DCGI (Drug Controller General of India) and NPPA (National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority) were to help consider concession on compassionate grounds and approve this, it would make the treatment affordable to me and many other needy patients.

Requesting support and consideration.
