This petition is deeply personal to me. The harsh reality of online bullying has become a grim part of many young people's lives. Over 200 schoolchildren die by suicide every year in the UK, with online bullying being a significant contributing factor (source: Office for National Statistics). 

The situation is worsening with each passing year as technology becomes more ingrained in our daily lives. We need to acknowledge the devastating impact that online bullying can have on children and young people’s mental health. But awareness alone isn't enough; we need concrete action.

Currently, there are no specific laws that recognise school bullying as a punishable hate crime. This lack of legislation leaves countless victims without justice and fails to deter potential bullies from causing harm.

We urge lawmakers to make school bullying - especially when it leads to tragic consequences like suicide - recognised as a hate crime under law. Such recognition would ensure proper punishment for those inflicting harm on others through their cruel actions.
