The Issue

Every day, hundreds of children, parents and local residents use the zebra crossing on Bolton Road, Abbey Village (PR6 8DP) to get to and from school, the children's park and nearby homes.

Unfortunately, many drivers fail to stop at the zebra crossing, and some drive through at excessive speeds, even when pedestrians are waiting or crossing. As a parent who uses this crossing every day with my children, I have experienced first-hand how frightening and dangerous it has become.

I am extremely concerned that if nothing changes, it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or worse.

I am calling on Lancashire County Council to carry out an urgent road safety assessment and consider replacing the existing zebra crossing with a signal-controlled (traffic light) crossing, or introduce other suitable traffic-calming measures to protect pedestrians.

Our children and community deserve to be able to cross the road safely without fearing for their lives.

Please sign this petition to help make Bolton Road a safer place for everyone.

Together, we can help prevent a tragedy before it happens.
