Every day, thousands of Filipinos rely on bicycles to go to work, school, and for daily errands. For many, cycling is not just exercise, it is an affordable and essential form of transportation. However, biking in the Philippines remains dangerous because existing bike lanes are often not respected by other road users.

Many bike lanes are constantly blocked by cars parked illegally, delivery vehicles stopping “just for a while,” and even street vendors occupying the space. Motorcycles also frequently drive inside bike lanes to avoid traffic, turning what should be a safe space into another high risk lane. This forces cyclists back into fast moving traffic, increasing the chance of serious accidents.
