You will all no doubt by now be aware of the development taking place on The Cattle Market in Driffield – formally known as Eastgate Free Car Park. We have concerns that the reduction in long stay free parking spaces will have a detrimental effect on trade for the small, locally run businesses in the town. This concern was previously raised at the ERYC planning meeting for the development of the former cattle market - it was suggested that Beckside car park on Provedence Place could possibly be turned into a free car park to combat the loss of free parking once the former Cattle Market is developed. This car park is currently underutilized and by making it free, it would encourage shoppers on to the high street.
