Hi friends,
We’re about to reach 10,000 signatures.
That’s 10,000 Australians saying the same thing:
Access to life-changing diabetes technology should not depend on your bank balance or where you live.
But right now — in Australia — it does.
And people are telling us exactly how that feels:
“As a parent who can’t afford private health with a daughter with Type 1 diabetes, this is an important issue in our family. The only reason my daughter has had an insulin pump for the last 3 years is due to being accepted for a loan pump at the children’s hospital. This is a disgrace in a first world country. I hope that everyone who has T1 diabetes can have an insulin pump if they choose to.” — K
“My clinical team know how beneficial to my health it would be to have an insulin pump to manage my diabetes, however it is currently financially out of reach for me.” — Nicole
“After 30 years of injecting I would like to access new technology but I am not rich enough to afford it.” — Roxanne
“It’s not fair that the people who are financially struggling don’t have the same care as the wealthier people. We are apparently a country with a great health system so everyone should be treated the same no matter their financial status.” — Wayne
“A basic standard of health shouldn’t send people broke.” — Kellee
“My husband has T1D. If he had the opportunity as a younger man to have a pump, the long term complications he is now experiencing would not be as significant.” — Karen
“My 16-year-old son has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. If he was able to access an insulin pump it would vastly improve his daily life and make his transition to living with diabetes so much easier and safer.” — Tanya
Behind every signature is frustration. But also hope.
Hope for a future where access to proven, life-changing technology is based on need — not the size of your wallet.
As we head into the final weeks of the federal election campaign, the message to politicians is simple:
This isn’t about luxury. It’s about standard diabetes care.
And in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, the gap between those who can afford standard care — and those who can’t — is only getting wider.
Australians with type 1 diabetes shouldn’t have to take out loans, rely on charity, or go without.
We can do better.
Together, we can show our leaders that Australians with type 1 diabetes deserve better. We deserve access. And we deserve action.
Here's how you can help:
→ Share this petition far and wide
→ Write to your local MP or candidates—ask where they stand.
→ Raise your voice so no one with T1D is left behind
All the best
