Make Auburn Hayfield Parking Lot safer for students
The Issue
As students at Auburn University, the Hayfield Parking Lot is a daily part of our lives. This primarily affects the Nursing School, College of Education, Forestry, Wildlife and Environment, and the freshman Hill dorm residents. Each day, we face the challenges of navigating an uneven, poorly lit, and unsupervised area. This is not just an inconvenience but a significant safety concern and potential liability. Accidents and incidents occur too frequently, leaving us anxious and worried about our wellbeing. To ensure the safety of our student community, it is imperative that immediate action is taken.
The current state of the Hayfield Parking Lot is unacceptable. The uneven surface poses a hazard, particularly in inclement weather when visibility is already compromised. Furthermore, the lack of lighting makes students vulnerable to crime, especially during early morning or late evening hours. The absence of security cameras further exacerbates these issues, leaving us without evidence or recourse in the event of an incident.
Safety is a fundamental right, and Auburn University has the responsibility to provide a secure environment for its students. We propose the following actionable solutions:
1. Level the parking lot to eliminate surface hazards, ensuring that all students can park and walk safely.
2. Install adequate lighting to illuminate the entire parking area, focusing on high-traffic zones and walkways.
3. Set up security cameras strategically around the lot, enabling constant surveillance and deterring potential criminal activities.
The implementation of these changes will not only enhance the safety of the student body but also reflect the university’s commitment to its students’ welfare.
By signing this petition, you are urging Auburn University to prioritize the safety and security of its students. Let's take this necessary step forward in creating a safer campus environment for everyone."
