Make Astoria safer for pedestrians and cyclists!

The Issue

Are you someone who walks or bikes around Astoria? If so, you probably dread walking under the train tracks on 31st St. Speeding cars, red light runners, and people who are illegally parked make crossing the street anything between a headache or deadly.

NYC DOT wants to improve this stretch of road to make it safer for everyone who uses our streets and sidewalks — parents walking their kids to school, seniors about your day to day life, even you! Drivers too benefit from lower speeds — crashes become less frequent AND less fatal. That hasn't stopped drivers from trying to keep the status quo.

Some business owners in the neighborhood who drive to work can't be bothered to take the extra minute or two a day to drive safely, and would gladly run you over to save a few seconds. They're trying to mount a pressure campaign against NYC DOT from making our streets safer. Will you let them? Don't let their voice drown you out — tell decision makers TODAY that you want a safer and more livable Astoria.

Wow, look at this beautiful bike lane with spaces for you to wait while jaywalking. It could exist in Astoria with your help!

ATTEND AND COMMENT: Queens Community Board 1 Meeting: April 15, 2025 at Astoria World Manor, 25-22 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, NY 11102 6:30pm to 9pm.
