Make animal testing illegal in the United States

Make animal testing illegal in the United States
The Issue
Animal testing is a cruel and outdated practice that poses ethical concerns and scientific issues. Each year, more than 100 million animals suffer and die in the U.S. in experiments for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experiments, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force-feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, and they frequently endure severe pain, suffering, and distress.
There are several alternatives to animal testing that are not only humane but often provide more accurate and relevant data for human health outcomes. Technologies such as organ-on-a-chip, 3D bioprinting, and in vitro testing utilizing human cell cultures have proven to be effective and more reflective of human responses than animal models. These innovative techniques are capable of providing data that translates more directly to human health and disease, potentially shortening the drug development timeline while being ethically sound.
In addition to advanced technology, major advancements have been made in computational modeling that can predict how drugs will interact with the human body, allowing scientists to bypass potentially harmful animal tests. Countries like the Netherlands have already committed to phased plans to reduce and eventually eliminate animal testing. The United States must join the global movement, demonstrating leadership in humane science by setting a legislative plan to ban animal testing and prioritize alternative methods.
Animal testing not only subjects countless animals to unnecessary suffering but also presents risks of skewed results that could endanger human health in drug development. It is time for our country to shift towards more innovative, ethical, and effective research methods that respect animal welfare and align with the values of an increasing number of Americans who oppose the use of animals in experiments.
We urge lawmakers, research institutions, and scientific communities to commit to removing animal testing from the fabric of American scientific research, to protect animals and enhance the quality of scientific inquiry. Join us in calling for a future without animal testing. Sign this petition and help advocate for change.
