Make all women's products free
Make all women's products free
The Issue
As a dedicated feminist, I firmly believe that access to basic necessities should not be a luxury. All women should have access to essential products without financial burden. It is an injustice that feminine hygiene products, like sanitary pads and tampons, are taxed as luxury items in many places, while they are, in fact, fundamental to women's health and dignity. This is not just a women’s issue—it’s a human rights issue.
Research indicates that a significant percentage of women experience 'period poverty'—a situation where they cannot afford menstrual products. For instance, a study conducted by Plan International UK revealed that 1 in 10 girls cannot afford to buy menstrual products and have to resort to alternatives that can lead to serious health implications. Implementing free women's products availability can drastically change these realities, ensuring that women from all socio-economic backgrounds are afforded basic human dignity and do not have to choose between their health and financial constraints.
If a small nation like Scotland can roll out laws to make period products free, larger countries should follow suit. Free access to women's products would not only enhance personal dignity but also improve public health outcomes and education equality, as girls often miss school due to lack of access to necessary products.
We call upon policymakers to prioritize women's health and eliminate costs for all essential women's products. With government support and your voice, we can change how society prioritizes women's health and well-being.
Sign this petition to demand that all women’s products become free and accessible to everyone, everywhere.
