Make All Public Buildings in Philadelphia Wheelchair Accessible
Make All Public Buildings in Philadelphia Wheelchair Accessible
The Issue
Despite progress in recent decades, not all public buildings in Philadelphia are wheelchair accessible. This lack of accessibility is not only a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) but is also an infringement on the rights and freedoms of people with mobility challenges. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 12.6% of Philadelphia's population is living with a disability. This figure represents a significant portion of our community who face unnecessary challenges in accessing public services and facilities every day.
This petition demands that the City of Philadelphia ensure that all public buildings, without exception, are wheelchair accessible. This not only means that buildings should have ramps, lifts, and suitable paths of travel, but also that interior features like elevators, restrooms, and other amenities should be designed properly to accommodate wheelchair users.
The city has a moral and legal responsibility to ensure that its public spaces are built and renovated in a way that is inclusive and accessible to all. By signing this petition, you're supporting not only the approximately 200,000 disabled Philadelphia residents, but also promoting a more inclusive, equitable city. Please sign this petition today.
