Hi Super Supporters!
Today I am updating you with some exclusive news from decision maker Bodyform. I delivered the petition and met with the manufacturer to discuss the campaign in October 2019.
As with all meetings I discuss the unnecessary plastic in their products and why they need to bring about change by removing it. I also make suggestions about the other ways they can make a difference. One of these being to put the ingredients of what is in these products on packaging, which is not only a concern of mine, but one submitted by many of you too.
The news and changes that are rolling out from today:
- Bodyform are going to be listing the full ingredients of all their products on packaging!
- Bodyform are switching to at least 50% renewable outer packaging on their ‘ultra’ lines. This means that 50% of the packaging will now be made using responsibly grown sugar cane waste.
Traci Baxter from Bodyform said: “When we met with Ella in October 2019 we were inspired by the amazing work that she is doing. Change needs to happen, and whilst it’s never as simple as an overnight fix, we want to play our part in creating a more sustainable future. There are things we can do now, and things that we can work towards in the long-term. Rolling out from today Bodyform packaging will become the first branded femcare product range to list the full ingredients on pack, we’re moving to at least 50% renewable material in our Bodyform Ultra packs, and we will be adding the OPRL (On-pack Recycling Logo) to make it clear that the packaging is recyclable and outline the ways in which it can be recycled. These are the first steps of many we hope to take that will improve our sustainability offering.”
Although these aren’t changes to the core products themselves in removing plastic, they are steps in the right direction regarding packaging changes, especially the transparency around what the products contain. These steps show that Bodyform are listening, which is really important, and I am continuing ongoing dialogue with them.
It would be great to see them heightening the renewable percentage of packaging and doing this across not just their ultra range, but their full range too.
I hope to see more changes like this happening in the period industry, especially movements towards removing plastic from the core products themselves like tampons and pads.
Other updates:
- I’m meeting decision maker Lil-Lets this month!
- Sainsbury’s have started selling period pants, importantly making another reusable option available to customers.
Thank you for all your continued support and I will keep the updates coming whenever more news comes in.
Ella :)
