Hi Super Supporters!
Period products are the fifth most common type of waste found on European beaches, according to a report by the European commission. Since I started this campaign so many supporters have commented about the amount of period related waste that they find polluting the environment, waterways and their local beaches.
The most commonly found item is plastic tampon applicators, they are used for seconds, yet take centuries to break down and when they do it is into micro plastics!
I have been sent so many pictures of them polluting the environment in the United Kingdom from Scottish islands, right down to Cornwall’s coastlines, everywhere in between and beyond! There are so many different varieties, colours and types of tampon applicators, which sometimes makes it hard to distinguish who made them. That’s why I have put this chart together to make it a bit easier!
This chart will help you identify the plastic tampon applicators you find and determine which brand produces them! This is one way that you can take action with the campaign whenever and wherever you are! Feel free to save, print and use the picture and take it with you to the beach or river when doing a clean!
When you find an applicator all you need to do is:
- Check the chart to identify which brand made it!
- Take a picture
- Post the picture on social media tagging the brand that made it along with the #EndPeriodPlastic hashtag! For example, ‘@Tampax #EndPeriodPlastic!’ you could also include additional information like what beach/place you found it!
By doing this we are showing the brands where these products end up, that the impacts of them are harmful and unnecessary, especially when alternatives are available, all whilst creating a wave of action that will not go unnoticed! By posting these pictures we will also be raising awareness of this issue, which might encourage the people buying and using them to make the switch to an alternative!
The more awareness we create about this issue the better!
Thank you for your continued support and for all your comments on the Boot’s update last week, they were wonderful to read and continue to empower me!
