Hello wonderful supporters!
Latest update on Tesco #endperiodplastic:
A big thank you to everyone taking part in contacting Tesco to tell them how much we want them to #endperiodplastic! I got in touch to show them how many of you are getting involved with this, and am currently awaiting a response.
Tesco have also been in the news last week about how they are going to be banning non recyclable plastic packaging by 2019 (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/tesco-ban-non-recyclable-plastic-packaging-2019-single-use-bags-a8365976.html) - I asked them if this is going to include menstrual product packaging and they responded with 'We are looking at reducing plastic across all of our products. At the moment I'm unable to provide any information as to how we'll be doing this and when.'
Single-use plastics: New EU rules to reduce marine litter!
'With the amount of harmful plastic litter in oceans and seas growing ever greater, the European Commission is proposing new EU-wide rules to target the 10 single-use plastic products most often found on Europe's beaches and seas, as well as lost and abandoned fishing gear.'
These 10 single-use plastic products most found as you can see from the image include 'sanitary applications'! Another step in the right direction is that 'Sanitary towels as well as wet wipes and balloons will require clear and standardised labelling which indicates how waste should be disposed, the negative environmental impact of the product and the presence of plastics in the products.' You can read more about this here: http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-18-3927_en.htm
Blog feature:
TOTM (Time of the Month) have written a brilliant blog about the petition and interviewed me asking a variety of questions including: what's the problem with plastics, what inspired me to start the campaign and alongside environmental impact, are there any health implications? You can read the full interview and find out more here: https://www.totm.com/plastic-free-periods-interview-with-campaigner-ella-daish/
Thank you so much for all your continued support and I hope you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend!
Let's #endperiodplastic together!
