The Issue

I live just down the road from Ingledew Dog Park with my two Pugs. Visiting the park should be a joyful and carefree experience, but unfortunately, it has been marred by a few unsettling incidents. Like many small dog owners, I've had troubling encounters with larger dogs in the shared space, and to make matters worse, the park's single gate isn't secure enough to prevent accidental escapes. The last time we visited, someone inadvertently let my dogs out, and I could only catch them with the help of a kind passerby.

Ingledew Dog Park is a cherished community space in our neighborhood, offering dogs and their owners a place to exercise, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors. But, the current layout doesn’t cater to the specific needs of all its users. Creating a separate, secure section for small dogs would significantly enhance safety, providing peace of mind for small dog owners and ensuring a harmonious environment within the park.

According to experts, small dogs can often be overpowered or intimidated by larger dogs, leading to stress and potential harm. This is corroborated by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, which emphasizes the importance of accommodating different dog sizes and temperaments to ensure positive dog park experiences for all.

A dedicated space for small dogs could include lower, more secure fencing, a double-gated entrance to prevent accidental escapes, and specially designed play equipment suitable for their size. These changes are not only beneficial for small dogs but would also ease the pressure on large dog owners, who may worry about unintentional mishaps during playtime.

We are calling on the local council and park authorities to consider this request seriously. By reallocating a portion of the park for this purpose, they would show a commitment to the safety and enjoyment of our entire community. It’s a small change that could make a huge difference in the lives of our furry friends and their owners.

Please support this initiative to make Ingledew Dog Park a safer and more inclusive space by signing this petition. Together, we can create a welcoming environment for all dogs and their families.
