Make a predatory behaviour & sexual harassment register

Make a predatory behaviour & sexual harassment register
The Issue
Introduction
For too long, women have experienced unwanted and inappropriate behaviour, both online (Social Media), in the confines of their workplaces and street harassment. Every workplace and online platform must be safe and respectful, and no one should fear being the target of inappropriate behaviour. This is a widespread issue that calls for tangible actions. Sexual harassment, online and offline, leads to harmful psychological impacts on its victims, often resulting in depression, anxiety, and even self-harm.
My Story
My wife has been a victim - a truly disheartening experience that has given me first-hand view on how common this inappropriate behaviour is, in workplaces, online and in public spaces. Recently, she became a victim of unsolicited flirty talk at her workplace, and on several occasions, unknown men have added her on social media, sending inappropriate pictures. This is not an isolated incident.
Statistics
Since beginning to research this in more depth, I have come across some alarming statistics which highlight exactly how prevalent this behaviour is:
- 58% of women have reported online harassment, out of which 35% experienced specifically sexist harassment
- 21% of women aged between 18-29 have reported experiencing sexual harassment online
- 30% of women have reported harassment within their workplace
- 60% of harassers in the workplace are men, often targeting their female co-workers
My Goal
The goal of this petition is to have clear and robust policies in place that will deter this predatory behaviour and ensure offenders are held accountable - not just for ourselves or spouses but also for our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends - for each and every woman who has fallen victim to this behaviour already and for those that fear it.
I am advocating for the establishment of a register (similar to the current sex offender register) whereby repeat/known offenders are recorded here and following X amount of warnings could result in being blocked from social media usage and refused employment in certain workspaces/additional monitoring of their behaviour during their working time. A national register could protect countless women by acting as a deterrent and ensuring punitive measures for the offenders are put into place.
This petition therefore calls on legislative bodies and leaders in tech companies to step up their efforts in curbing this insidious problem. Establish a register for these offenders. Give women the peace, safety, and respect they deserve. Please, sign this petition today and help us bring about this necessary change.
Closing Statement
If you are a female that has experienced this form of harassment, please take a few moments to sign this petition to prevent this from happening to other women. If you, like myself, are concerned for the welfare of females that may feel they do not have a voice or are too scared to speak out about experiencing this behaviour then please sign the petition to start making a change today. It's time to stop online and workplace sexual harassment.
Please also take the time to share this far and wide on all social medias.
Thank you.
