Allow voters in the next state-wide election to decide whether or not to end the prohibition of cannabis and hemp.

The Issue

Prohibition is a proven failure.  Should we sustain the needless crime and counterproductive law enforcement associated with illegal marijuana, or should we be investing in successful public safety strategies and new agricultural products?

Voters should have an opportunity to decide whether or not the prohibition of cannabis and hemp should continue. Colorado and Washington have voted.  New Mexico and other states will soon follow.  Minnesota wants to vote, too.

Thank you for contacting me about the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes. I am glad you took the time to share your perspective. I am pleased we were able to craft legislation that will help several thousand Minnesotans who can get relief for serious medical conditions through access to medical cannabis while also addressing public safety and medical efficacy concerns. The public policy discussion about medical marijuana is ongoing and I expect our state’s policy will evolve as we learn more from our experience and the experience in other states. Paul
