Maintain Public Access to Forestry Path in Vicarage Terrace, Cwmparc, Treorchy #GateGate
The Issue
For generations, families and nature lovers in Cwmparc and Treorchy have enjoyed uninterrupted access to the nearby forestry path maintained by Natural Resources Wales. This beloved walking trail winds through our beautiful countryside and is a treasure we all hold dear. It forms an integral part of our community's spirit, and not to mention, our access to it is a right.
Sadly, this cherished access is under threat with the installation of gates on 17th February 2025. We, therefore, call on the RCT council to ensure the path remains accessible to the public by taking the necessary action to remove the gates, changing the Definitive Map to recognise a Public Right of Way; and rejecting any planning permission request for erecting fences or barriers that would hinder access. A fence above 1m high on the curtailment of a road may require planning permission under planning law, and this phenomena threatens to cage our cherished countryside and the happiness we found in it.
According to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, the right to roam and access to the outdoors contributes majorly to the mental and physical health of the population. We fear losing our access to the forestry path would have dire implications for our community's health and well-being.
Let our future generations continue to enjoy the beauty and freedom to roam our remarkable Welsh countryside, just as we have. Let us maintain our tradition, our health, our spirit! We urge the RCT council to defend and uphold the public's right to open access. Please sign this petition to keep our countryside free and accessible for all.
