Maintain Funding for the Specialist Mental Health Visitor Team Southend

The Issue

To whom it may concern,

I'm writing this petition on behalf of myself, and all the families who have greatly benefitted from the Mindful Mums and Baby Team, a specialist mental health visitor team. This team has made a profound impact on my life, and they've helped me in a way I cannot put into words. They've been my lifeline in the challenging journey of parenthood, providing critical mental health support when it was desperately needed.

The team's work is pivotal in the lives of numerous families across the nation. According to NHS England, up to 20% of new mothers experience a mental health problem during pregnancy and within a year of childbirth (Mental Health Taskforce. 2016). These problems, if untreated, can have significant and long-lasting impacts on not just a woman, but her family too. Yet, despite the clear need, funding for such specialist teams is being reduced.

At such a delicate time in life, families should not be left to grapple with mental health issues alone, nor should they have to fight for the crucial help they need. Our society needs to ensure that support systems exist, and the Specialist Mental Health Visitor Team is a prime example of the kind of support that can make a life-changing difference.

Please, let us not diminish the importance of mental health, new mothers, their newborns, and families in general. Join me in urging policy makers to maintain funding for the Specialist Mental Health Visitor Team that is doing such crucial work. Take a stand for mental health, for new mothers, for our society's future. Help us save this vital service. Please, sign this petition.
