Maintain Current YMCA Dress Code Policy as Stated on July 16, 2024

The Issue

From the perspective of many devoted YMCA employees in San Joaquin County, who finds solace in the essence of respect and consideration for all bodies, the YMCA dress code policy is personal. The current policy, as documented on July 16, 2024, is acceptable to all employees.

The YMCA's dress code current policy that we all signed on July 16, 2024 states:

A staff shirt and badge must be worn at all times.
Pants: No holes or ripped jeans and no shear leggings
Shorts/Skirts: No shorter than 2 inches above the knee
Closed-toed shoes are required.
Yoga pants and sweats are acceptable but must not be see through or sloppy.

However, this existing policy is under threat.
There is an attempt to make changes in the dress code policy, in particular the leggings and yoga pants will be no longer allowed. We are completely against this because we feel as females discriminated against do to the shapes of our body.

Wearing jeans while working with children can be less than ideal for several reasons. Jeans tend to be less flexible and more restrictive than other types of clothing, potentially hindering the caregiver's ability to move quickly and comfortably during active play or emergencies. Active wear such as leggings and yoga pants should be ideal.

Let's ensure that our dress code remains a symbol of respect and consideration for all, irrespective of body shape or fashion choice. Please sign this petition to keep the current YMCA dress code policy and prevent unwarranted changes from taking place. If you agree and support this petition DO NOT sign the new document that will be emailed out to us.
