Maintain Closure of LISD School District on Tuesday 1/16 for Student Safety

The Issue

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM COMMENTING INAPPROPRIATE THINGS. LISD MOST LIKELY WONT LISTEN IF THIS SEEMS LIKE A JOKE

As a concerned member of the Lewisville, TX community, I am deeply worried about the safety of our students. The forecast predicts icy weather conditions on Tuesday 1/16 and despite this, LISD School District plans to remain open. This decision puts our students at risk as they travel to and from school in dangerous conditions.

Ice storms can lead to hazardous driving conditions. According to the Federal Highway Administration, over 150,000 car accidents occur each year due to icy roads in the United States (Federal Highway Administration). Our children should not be put in harm's way due to a decision that can be easily avoided by keeping schools closed.

Furthermore, exposure to severe cold can lead to health issues such as hypothermia and frostbite (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). By keeping schools open during these extreme weather conditions, we are potentially exposing our children's health at risk.

We urge LISD School District officials to prioritize student safety above all else and keep schools closed on Tuesday 1/16. Please sign this petition if you agree that no child should be put in danger because of an avoidable situation.

UPDATE: Great job so far! Just a reminder to share with who you know to let this get as much traction as possible. If you do decide to comment, remeber this will be emailed to the board of LISD, so don’t be a fool. Keep it up
