Maintain and Support the Boys Volleyball Team at Sunset High School

Maintain and Support the Boys Volleyball Team at Sunset High School
The Issue
I'm a parent of a passionate volleyball player at Sunset High School in the Beaverton School District. My son, along with his talented teammates, formed part of a winning volleyball team in their inaugural season. Their dedication and performance were outstanding; they not only had a winning record but also qualified for state with several players receiving All-State recognition. Unfortunately, the school and district authorities are still deciding whether or not they want to support the team this year.
This hesitancy shines a light on what would be an unfair decision that threatens to put a sudden halt to these boys' athletic journey. By not offering support, the Beaverton School District risks not only disappointing our boys whose hard work had paid off last season; but they also risk curtailing opportunities for physical fitness, teamwork, and school spirit. Sports involvement in school has proven to be beneficial for students, improving their academic and social performances (National Federation of State High School Associations). Disbanding the Boys Volleyball Team would contradict these beneficial outcomes.
It is essential to remember why we foster and encourage such programs in our schools – for our children's growth, wellness, and skills development. We, therefore, urge Sunset High School and the school district to continue supporting the Boys Volleyball Team as they did last year. It is a matter of fairness, encouragement, and equality. We are asking that the Beaverton School District support our young student athletes and maintain the Boys Volleyball Team at Sunset High School. Please sign this petition to support our request.
