Create policies for gender equality in India (police stations, schools etc )
The Issue
India in in one of worst country for women to live, because women here are just not getting raped but murdered too. For child rape or molestation there is no strict laws like other countries. I feel patriarchal mindset of India has a lot to do with rape culture where our life equates to getting killed because we are raped. Other females have other gender issues, half of our time and energy is consumed by debating for going out and at what time, to have career, what to wear, how to talk, how to sit, and more. We really need to teach people equality and what is government doing about it? Does it take too much to make programs or policies which teaches gender equality in India? It will take lot of time to have the change but when are we going to start?
Why do we have to wait for another rape to happen and then start debating about the real reason and the psychological problems of rapists?
I feel it is necessary for India to practice equality at every level be it schools, police stations, hospitals, office, or anywhere it is necessary.
In schools ( government/private) :
- Let the boys do the kitchen work for 3 days a week ( it could just be about serving the dishes) and tell them to help parents at home.
- Let's tell girls to make something or go out to buy things.
- Have grade for behaviour, specially towards girls and at home.
- Let's have posters of boys and girls wearing anything they want (revealing, of opposite gender) make it normal.
- Let's have a department who takes care of psychology of students( if there is anything which bothers them at home or school which stops them to be progressive)
- Debates on what is sexism, social problems of India, bullying, etc
- Allowing students to share there experience of anything bad which affects their mind
These are very basic things and need not be the same there can be more methods to teach students equality from a very young age. It can be iterative, but we need a department to make plans.
In Police stations or any other government office :
- Treat any life women, child, men, old people, people from any occupation, transgender or even an animal with utmost importance. Measures to ensure if anyone anywhere complains about a missing living being it is important.
- Measures to have very strict action when a government official says " why were you out at that time of the day" "she would have eloped" " what were you wearing" and many more unrelated statement. I think officers who say such things are also equally responsible and a statement like this needs to be questioned.
- Ensures there is no inequality in any government offices on the basis of gender, religion, money, occupation etc.
For Politicians:
- Adequate female politicians who needs to address problem of women in our country in parliament
- Politicians who has crime against women needs to be reevaluated by us to be voted or not from next time.
At home:
- Our mothers should ask for equality in household work whether they are working or not. One meal of the day should be made by the men of the house. Cleaning should be divided equally.
- Recheck and talk with your son about women right, and what does he think of women who works, Is there any problem he is facing at school, did he notice someone talking badly to girls in school?
- Tell stories of brave women to your daughter, tell her about the females who were working in your family, tell her to go out with her dad often.
More solutions are welcomed we need to start asking for official measures for equality in India! Currently there is none and it does not make India progressive in any way!
