Demand answers from Magnolia ISD on threats that targeted Black, LGBTQ & Jewish students.
The Issue
On March 7, 2021 families in Magnolia ISD in Montgomery County, TX began receiving threatening, racist, anti-semitic, and homophobic messages to their private cell phones & email accounts from someone who claimed to have hacked the Magnolia ISD server. That same day, the Magnolia ISD webpages and Twitter account were also hacked and sharing blatantly racist and anti-LGBTQ messages and memes.
When Magnolia ISD officials were made aware of this, they shut down the websites and claimed to be investigating. However, the only information that has been released from this investigation is that local law enforcement determined the messages "present no credible threat to the safety of our students, staff, or facilities." They also claim that the district's databases containing private information on students had not been hacked; however, families are wondering how then the hackers knew their private cell phone numbers and email addresses.
None of the issues surrounding this incident were discussed at the school board meeting and no information has been released regarding how the investigations have progressed and whether or not whoever was responsible is being held accountable to the crimes they have committed.
We demand full transparency and accountability from Magnolia ISD. Students should feel safe to go to school and families should feel confident that their children are being cared for and that any threats against their children are being taken seriously.
We demand more information on how personal information could have been leaked and what steps are being taken to prevent these hacking events in the future.
We demand updates on the progress of the investigation and evidence of accountability for the criminals who terrorized these students and their families.
Thank you for taking the time to read this petition and for offering your support.
