We, the undersigned, are calling for accountability and reform at the Bucks County SPCA following the heartbreaking and unjust euthanization of a dog named Maggie, a young chocolate lab who was needlessly killed despite having a safe exit and a foster family ready to adopt her. Maggie’s life matters, and the actions taken by the Bucks County SPCA must not go unchallenged.

Maggie’s Story:
For over two years, Maggie lived in deplorable conditions. She was kept outside in all weather—rain, snow, extreme heat, and cold—by her owner, who neglected to provide her the care and comfort every animal deserves. Despite these dire circumstances, Maggie was not a stray. She had a family who failed her, and for years, we tried to help her.

In early 2023, after years of effort, a rescue group (K911 Lost Dog Search, Inc.) was able to work with the Bucks County SPCA to capture Maggie and bring her to safety. A plan was in place to give her a new life, with an experienced foster family ready to adopt her. However, in what can only be described as a tragic failure of animal welfare, Maggie was euthanized after only two and a half weeks in the SPCA’s care.

The Bucks County SPCA claims to be a “no-kill” shelter, but Maggie’s case shows a devastating flaw in their system. Despite the fact that Maggie was non-aggressive, not ill, and simply frightened from her past abuse, the shelter chose to end her life. They ignored our written instructions, including our offer to take responsibility for her care and adoption.

Why This Matters:
Maggie was a victim of neglect. But she was also a victim of a flawed system that failed to prioritize her well-being. No animal should be denied a second chance at life simply because they are scared or unfamiliar with human kindness. We cannot allow this to happen again.

We demand the following actions from the Bucks County SPCA:

Full Transparency: A complete investigation into Maggie’s case, including who made the decision to euthanize her and why the agreed-upon plan was disregarded.
Reform of Animal Evaluation Criteria: A commitment to transparent, consistent, and humane animal evaluation processes to ensure that animals like Maggie are given a fair chance to live.
Improved Collaboration with Rescues and Fosters: A written agreement with rescue groups and foster families to ensure that animals with a safe exit are never euthanized unnecessarily.
True No-Kill Policy: A clear and enforceable policy that aligns with the shelter’s mission statement, ensuring that all animals are given the best chance at adoption and rehabilitation, regardless of past trauma.
Maggie’s life was cut short, and her death was preventable. This petition is a call for accountability and change to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.

What You Can Do:
By signing this petition, you are standing up for Maggie, and for all the animals who rely on shelters and rescues for their care and safety. You are demanding that the Bucks County SPCA take responsibility for their actions and make critical changes to how they operate.

We will not allow Maggie’s story to be forgotten. We are determined to ensure that no other dog faces the same fate she did. Join us in fighting for justice and reform at the Bucks County SPCA.

End the silence. Demand justice for Maggie.
