A conditional use permit is being sought by Acciona Energy USA to construct a solar energy project on approximately 1,100 acres with 250,000 solar panels to be located between Three Forks Road and Lost Fork Road running along Red House Road. The Board of Adjustments tabled this request at their meeting on August 20 and have requested additional information from the company. This would be an eyesore to our community and studies have shown health risks related to high voltage transmission lines including increased risk of childhood leukemia, cancer and fertility problems. The solar farm could have a negative impact on homeowners' property values, and although the people who are leasing their property would receive monetary compensation, the land would remain zoned agricultural and taxed as such. This is a 30+ year lease and what happens when the solar panels need to be disposed of? A new substation would be built near Three Forks Road with the power generated being sold to East Kentucky Power. The Madison County residents on KU or Clark Energy or Bluegrass Energy would have no benefit. Please sign the petition opposing the solar farm and make your position known before the next board meeting!
