The Issue

I felt the strong therapeutic affect of art, culture and music while going through a bereavement period. This restoration would not have been possible without the contribution of Pakistani Matinee Idol #WaheedMurad. It was this moment of yearning to have seen him in person once in my lifetime, when I realized that the wax museum of Madame Tussaud's London does not have even one Pakistani artist displayed. As opposed to that, there are quite a few Indian cinema idols, who are equally loved by Pakistanis. Nevertheless,  not having even one representative of Pakistani artist triggered me to start this petition. But this is not all !

The fourth month of 2021 was confined in Covid-19, when my father was called to heaven. I could not bid him good bye as Red Zone sealed Pakistan away from us. Deeply anguished and depressed, I craved for a touch of my homeland and to return to everything that I could call a shared experience with my father. All that was in Pakistan.

The nostalgia flight brought numerous cherished memories: My tom-boy hair cut that I fashioned after #WaheedMurad, daddy’s promise to take me to the studio to possibly meet him and may be a chance to twist to the Kokorina tune. Boy oh boy, this was my dominant stream of memories, and that of the November of 1983 when the nation mourned the loss of a super star. Guided by nostalgia, I started watching Waheed Murad films as an escape from the depression hovering over my heart. In a few days, the escape became a source of inspiration through an introduction to the legends of Pakistan film industry, most of them happened to be in the Film Arts team, a team built ad facilitated by the youngest ever film producer of Pakistan: Waheed Murad .

My introduction to the Pakistani cinema and its music from 60s and 70s not only proved to be therapeutic in the face of depression, but also restored my pride in the creative abilities of our land: Pakistan. I realised that art, like a divine revelation, has the power to transform a human life!

Drawing upon the ancient Greek idea of romanticism that love is the process of mutual education, I strongly believe that reviving the Golden Period of Pakistani cinema not only can be a strong source of social and cultural harmony but also support the agenda of inter-faith harmony among the Pakistani and the British societies. In Pakistani cinema, no one could convey this message better than #WaheedMurad aka Chocolate Hero , who entered the showbiz industry with a vision to bring about social change through cinema. Therefore, it will be an honour and a source of ecstatic joy for millions of Overseas Pakistani and Pakistani tourists to find their beloved hero and a very gifted artist in the Wax Museum London.

Some fact to be considered are to understand Waheed Murad's significance for Pakistanis are:

1- The circle of Waheed Murad fans is growing larger and larger even after 38 years of his death in 1983, as people find it worth transferring to their younger generation:  the appreciation for his personality, art and his contribution to the social change through cinema.

2- Waheed Murad was the most googled person in 2019 hence the Google Doodle was dedicated to him on his Birthday (2nd of October).

3- He is the only artist whose biography has been written by a 3 times recipient of Presidential Iqbal Award of Pakistan, Mr Khurram Ali Shafique.

4- He is the only artist of Pakistan whose fan clubs are in each capital city of Pakistan and are very much active and alive locally as well as on Social Media.

5-  Murad is the unifying factor of Pakistan as he is appreciated for his impeccable dressing style and enchanting screen presence as much as for the professional and artistic standards he set for the Pakistani film industry.
