MACS Stakeholders Vote of No Confidence - Lori Phillips & Gregory Monroe

MACS Stakeholders Vote of No Confidence - Lori Phillips & Gregory Monroe
The Issue
As dedicated and concerned parents at Charlotte Catholic High School, we are deeply troubled by the leadership of our current principal, Lori Phillips and superintendent, Gregory Monroe.
Our concerns are not isolated but are widely shared among families in our school community.
Our children's education, well-being, and overall school experience should be entrusted to a leader who upholds transparency, effective communication, knowledge, and professionalism. Unfortunately, we have encountered a lack of clear communication, insufficient transparency, and an absence of leadership qualities necessary to foster a positive educational environment.
Despite multiple attempts to have our concerns addressed, we have been met with canceled meetings, unanswered inquiries, and continued disregard for parental involvement. This lack of engagement contradicts both Canon Law and the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) standards, which emphasize that parents are essential partners in Catholic education and that school leaders must foster trust and collaboration.
Canon Law & Catholic Educational Leadership Catholic education is founded on the collaboration between school leadership and parents. Canon Law affirms that parents are the primary educators of their children (Canon 793, 796, 1136), and they have the right to be involved in their education. The NCEA further outlines that principals must demonstrate spiritual leadership, educational excellence, and community engagement, while superintendents are responsible for ensuring schools uphold Catholic identity, effective governance, and academic success.
Current leadership at Charlotte Catholic has failed to meet these fundamental responsibilities. The lack of transparency, professionalism, and responsiveness to parental concerns jeopardizes the school’s integrity and the quality of education our children receive.
Lumen Accreditation and Parental Involvement
Charlotte Catholic High School's recent transition to Lumen Accreditation, offered through The Catholic University of America, underscores the importance of authentic Catholic education.
Lumen Accreditation emphasizes the collaboration between school leadership and parents to foster a community rooted in Gospel values. This partnership is essential for creating an environment where students can thrive academically and spiritually.
The Lumen Accreditation process includes a comprehensive evaluation that involves input from various stakeholders, including parents. This approach ensures that the school's mission aligns with the needs and expectations of the entire school community. By engaging parents in the accreditation process, Lumen fosters a sense of shared responsibility and collaboration in the pursuit of educational excellence.
However, the current leadership's lack of engagement with parents stands in direct opposition to the principles upheld by Lumen Accreditation. This disconnect not only undermines the accreditation's objectives but also hinders the school's ability to provide a holistic Catholic education that fully integrates parents as primary educators.
We urge the administration and decision-makers to take this petition seriously, as it reflects the genuine concerns of many families in our community. We seek a leadership change that prioritizes our children's education and well-being over maintaining the status quo.
If you believe in the urgent need for new leadership at our school, please join us in signing this petition. Together, we can advocate for a brighter future for our children and a stronger school community.
