On December 11th, 2020, Deputy Stephanie Robbins who works for Macon County Sheriff’s Office in Franklin, NC sent a message to someone (who would like to remain anonymous) calling them a *n word*.
To Sheriff Robert Holland: I and many of the locals in Macon County are calling on you to fire Deputy Stephanie Robbins immediately. We are also calling on you to mandate extra discrimination training for your deputies, and that you push for body cameras for all road deputies as soon as possible. It is important that you try your best to help make people of color in your community feel safe and protected, and if I was them right now, I wouldn’t feel safe or protected by Deputy Robbins or MCSO.
It could be harmful to people of color to be pulled over by a road deputy who is spouting off racial slurs for absolutely no reason when upset with someone. Robbins has been working as deputy since 2007, so 14 years, and we have no clue as to what kind of damage that she could’ve done to any person of color in that timeframe as a result of her racism. The deputies don’t have body cameras in Macon County, so we’ll never know, but at least now we know this is the type of behavior she displays when no one is watching.
The main concern is, here we have an obvious racist with weapons and the authority to use them under the law. This is a walking hazard to people of color and I am extremely concerned and scared for any POC that will encounter her. She must be terminated immediately to ensure she won’t hurt a person of color while she’s on duty.
