The Macleod College Student Body would like to urge the school council to reconsider their decision to abolish Year 12 Jackets.  Year 12 Jackets are an aspect of school that countless students look forward to.  In addition to unifying the year 12 graduating class, they are also considered a rite of passage and act as a fond reminder of a former student’s high school years once they have finished school. 

We understand and appreciate the changes that have already been made to the college’s uniform in an attempt to modernise it and achieve consistent uniformity across year levels, but Year 12 Jackets are an integral part of the uniforms of the majority of schools in Victoria (including many prestigious private schools) and we don’t believe there will be any significant benefits to removing them from our uniform.  Furthermore, although concerns have been raised regarding the cost of Year 12 Jackets in addition to the blazers that will be worn by years 7-11, many students have made it apparent that they consider the cost of a Year 12 Jacket reasonable and well worth it for the benefits they will provide, both in their final year of schooling and as a memento for the rest of their lives.
